Some of the girls leaving house board tonight have been on house board since their freshman year. House board isn't going to be the same without any of our graduating seniors, and I think it's important to reflect on how much they have given not only to the building, but to us younger residents. We brought in the 100th year anniversary of this building together, and if it weren't for leaders like the wonderful seniors we have on house board this year, and have had in years past, this building would not be the same. We have had some great memories together, and I just want to say thank you to the seniors. Thank you for guiding us through hard times, and encouraging us during exciting ones. Thank you for teaching us what it truly means to be a Martha Cook Cookie. Each meeting, each event, each conversation I have learned so much about not only Martha Cook, but myself as well. Your presences next year will be greatly missed at house board meetings, but I believe we have a strong group of girls, and you have given us the resources to learn, grow, and most importantly lead the building into it's next millennium.
Amy -- You have probably been the best Martha this building has ever had. I truly think that William Cook would be proud of the way that you have embodied the traditions of what it means to be a Cookie. Who knows, maybe someday you'll still meet a lawyer from next door and then all of Mr. Cook's dreams will come true. ;) Thank you for everything that you have done for the building.
Quinn -- I have never known someone to be so busy, but so efficient at the same time. I am in awe of all of the wonderfully successful events that you have planned in my two years of living here. You are going to leave behind a legacy that will be hard to live up to! (I'm sure Lydia can handle it though.)
Christina -- Thank you for keeping me healthy with your weekly posts in the cookie sheet (that you write, so I guess it's not like you're posting in the cookie sheet... but you know, thanks for looking out for us). You offer a great dynamic to house board, and our meetings are very efficient because of you. Thank you for not only keeping us on track, but inspiring us to be our best selves.
Annie -- Girl, the way you worked as tea chair was so impressive. This year you have taken our traditional Friday teas into your own hands, bringing fun music and providing a great atmosphere. Your enthusiasm for tea is why we elected you as tea chair, but your patience, humor and kind words are why we also like to keep you around on other days besides Fridays.
Carrie -- Obviously, you are so much more than the best Messiah Dinner co-chair I could have ever asked for. You are such a hard worker, and your contributions to the building will never be forgotten. Your passion to follow your dreams and hard work to achieve your goals is inspiring, and I will never forget your determination in all that you do. Thank you for making our community so much brighter.
Brittany -- You are always there to keep it real in the building, and always are able to offer a different perspective at house board meetings when we are struggling to find the way. Thank you for all you do! I know your year isn't over yet, but you're also a senior, so I thought I would give you a shoutout. <3
To those of you who are leaving house board, it has been a pleasure working with all of you, and I am grateful for all of the memories we have made together. To new house board, you are going to do great! Sometimes it may be hard, but just know, "help will always be given at [Martha Cook] to those who deserve it" (Dumbledore). As residents of Martha Cook and now members of house board, you definitely do deserve it, so don't be afraid to ask for help!
It's been a wonderful year as communications chair for the Martha Cook Building, and I can only hope that you found my posts helpful, heartfelt, and humorous. If not, then I'm sorry, but I thought they were funny, and it's more important to believe in yourself than what others think of you. #hailyes With that, Jenna, good luck as communications chair! If interested in any of Jenna's work, check out the twitter she runs for all of the funny, strange, enlightening, thought provoking things we residents say here at Martha Cook!
And so my beloved website, "so long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, goodbye, I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye, Good bye......."
Sincerely, your third generation comm. chair,
P.s. below are some of my favorite pictures from the past year with house board members!
