A few weeks later, Martha Cook hosted members of the Martha Cook Board of Governors, along with select performers from the Hendel's Messiah performance for what is known as "Messiah Dinner" at Martha Cook. This event is probably one of the most fancy events of the year, where are all of the girls are welcome to dress as they would for an event such as prom! Of course the ladies of Martha Cook never fail to impress! The night was a success. The delicious h'ordeuvres started the night off right and at dinner we were treated to a special performance of "Be Our Guest" by some of our quite talented residents! It was a wonderful night, and afterwards the girls gathered to take pictures.
One of the most important events at the end of the semester (in my opinion) was our holiday caroling and breakfast tradition! Early in the morning Cookies were woken up to the sound of their fellow Cookies singing everybody's favorite holiday carols. Everyone dressed up in their pajamas and made their way downstairs for story time! Our special guests this year, did a wonderful job of reading The Polar Express. The best part of the morning though was after story time when we were treated to a mouth watering breakfast! Pancakes galore, hot chocolate, scrambled eggs, nutella, hash browns, what more could a Cookie want?
January was a slow month for the Cookies, but as soon as the calendar flipped to February excitement exploded all around! Sunday, February 1 the Patriots won the super bowl! Yay Tom Brady! Not even minutes after this exciting moment, THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN CANCELED CLASSES FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 36 YEARS! Nothing could be heard over all of the excited shouts and screams throughout the halls of Martha Cook. To celebrate this incredible moment in history, many girls from the building raced outside to frolic in the snow... they even made the front cover of the Michigan Daily! What better way to celebrate? Afterwards they met inside for hot chocolate and The Chronicles of Narnia.
While the winter has been cold, our hearts are filled with warmth from all of these precious memories.
"The cold never bothered [us] anyway!"
