Welcome Week (Week between Move-in Day and start of Fall Semester)
Martha Cook's House Board and Residential Staff host fun events during this week to welcome new and returning residents back to the building including: Ice breakers, campus scavenger hunt/finding classes for new students, ice cream outing to Washtenaw Dairy, breakfast at Angelo's, movie nights, tie dye, and a tailgate in the garden before the first game.
Dinner for New Women (Fall)
This tradition takes place during the first sit down dinner of Fall semester. All new residents are honored and welcomed with a traditional sit-down meal and are gifted yellow carnations.
Break out your best costumes and dance moves because the Halloween Dance at Martha Cook promises to supply delicious snacks, beverages and a great time. Residents are encouraged to boogie down with their Building friends and invite others to join the party!
Lawyer's Tea (Fall Semester)
A cherished Building tradition, Martha Cook residents invite the University of Michigan’s Law students to join us for one Friday Afternoon Tea during the Fall Semester. Attendees have the chance to mingle while sipping tea and eating cucumber sandwiches in the classiest fashion.
Messiah Dinner (Weekend of Handel's Messiah Performance at Hill Auditorium)
As Fall Semester draws to an end, the residents and staff of Martha Cook kindly invite the soloists and orchestra of Handel's Messiah, which takes place at Hill Auditorium, along with other distinguished guests from the University to an elegant dinner party. Visitors are welcomed with musical performances, a fabulous meal, and warm wishes from the Building's leadership.
End of Semester Caroling and Holiday Breakfast (Morning after the last day of Classes)
Celebrate the culmination of the semester and get excited for the Season with morning caroling and breakfast in your holiday PJ's!
Dessert for New Women (April)
Held during the Winter Semester, usually the day before International tea, new residents to the building are invited to a special gathering in order to meet other new women, the incoming House Board, as well as a handful of current residents. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet a potential roommate just before Room Draw and get the gist of what living at Martha Cook is all about before Fall!
International Tea (March)
International Tea is an annual Martha Cook Tradition and is the only time we publicly open our doors to all of campus. Residents are invited to participate in International Tea by hosting a table. To host a table a resident (alone, with another resident, or with friends [friends can be from outside the dorm]) picks a country and then serves a sample of the dish to guests. This is one of our most popular and anticipated events of the year.
Spring Tea (April)
During Spring Tea, Martha Cook residents and alumni gather to celebrate the Building and to swap stories of fond Cookie memories. The event is also an annual fundraiser to ensure the preservation of a place we have all called home.
